**My interpretation (The English translation is based on how I interpreted the song when I first watched the PV
and it can differ from person to person based on how you read into the lyrics/song? Mine's a rather literal one, unfortunately ;_;) :

I think when he sang "broken empty shell", he was referring to someone he loves dearly who had just died
i.e. The soul has left the body thus leaving behind an empty broken shell. The rain falling on him is that loved one's tears as she ascends to Heaven? XDD

And so while hugging her and smiling, he touched her cheeks and wanted to die too (due to grief?)
He was also in so much pain nothing seemed real and and he couldn't see right, thus resulting in him being"blinded" by his grief.
Therefore explaining why he wants Maria to tell him if its a dream or if its real, and for Jesus to take him out of what he probably thinks is a delusion or a painful reality ^^;

Okay.. enough of my crapping XDD Anyone has a different interpretation?
I'd really love to hear how everyone interprets the song :P Do share!! :)
I've read one of my friend's depiction and I love hers so much! I think it makes more sense than mine, actually XD

I'm leaving a new comment, this one shorter as per request by Karadin. And, actually, this makes more sense. The parts that I have that are different go like this:

I could only tightly embrace this wounded, empty shell

I touched your cheeks while smiling and said, “Kill me…”

My eyes could no longer see through the buildup of tears, as I was vanishing and dying

And then I put "please" before "answer me". The rest of the song is the same (I mean, there aren't that many ways in which you can translate "kono yume kara". =P

I'm very new to translating Japanese, so I'm sure this isn't 100% correct, but this is what I got. ^^;>

I read a translation of the Pati Pati article, where Gackt states that the song JESUS, does not mean to pray to a god, but to challenge god, Answer me! so, why did you put the please before answer me?

Actually I was more looking for what kind of story/message you interpreted from the song. Cuz other than minor bits your translation is kinda the same as mine XDDD What do you think is the story behind the song? Or more accurately, what Gackt is trying to convey through "Jesus" (let's not take into consideration the PATi-PATi interview) XDDD

You're welcome anyway! ^-^ And yes, since our translations are both quite close, I'm going to assume that we're right...unless we're both horribly wrong! xD

My posting the lyrics though was more for my self confidence (I wanted to make sure that nothing sounded too off...I'm still so uncertain with my Japanese translations...^^;).

But, anyway, onto my thoughts. I think literal and figurative coincide when it comes to the lyrics. The shell referring to an empty shell in the man's gun, after he had shot himself, while figuratively that empty and wounded shell is reflex his feeble state of mind and body.

Meanwhile, the silent tears and rain are the events that took place before his contemplation on suicide that we see throughout the video. Perhaps she was dying, so the man wanted to die to be with her. Then again, maybe he killed or did something horrible to this woman, which he then regrets and wishes to die. Or perhaps his plea for death is directed toward Maria.

In which case, that sentence would be while he was in the act of committing suicide, he saw the tear-stained face of Maria and wanted to go there. Smiling he wanted to leave the world that had turned into his man-made torture.

Then the last line, the buildup of tears and his vanishing and dying would be right after he pulled the trigger and is dying. And the chorus would be his plea to be saved. But then the resolution to kill himself is made during Gackt's stanza of English and he can no longer call out to Maria to save him. And Jesus is not answering...

So, *bang*, he kills himself.

Sorry about this being so long, but that is how I see it. ^^;
