Lt. Colonel KK got me thinking about this!

True responses, and lolarious ones, are very much welcomed!

I would say: English poems. I dunno why they would be in English. ^^;;; I just can't imagine anything else!

The Prince by Niccolo Machiavelli -

1513 Italian
The Prince examines the acquisition, perpetuation, and use of political power in the western world. Not intending his writing to be a scholarly treatise on political theory, Machiavelli wrote The Prince to prove his profiency in the art of the state, offering advice on how a prince might gain and keep power. It is a classic study of power—its acquisition, expansion, and effective use.

The Five Rings by Myiamoto Mushashi -

1584 Japan
a Japanese swordsman famed for his duels and distinctive style. Musashi, as he is often simply known, became legendary through his excellent swordsmanship in numerous duels, even from a very young age. He is the founder of the Hyōhō Niten Ichi-ryū or Niten-ryū style of swordsmanship and the author of The Book of Five Rings a book on strategy, tactics, and philosophy that is still studied today.

Confessions of a Mask - Yukio Mishima

Japan 1948
Confessions of a Mask is an account, usually considered at least semi-autobiographical, of a boy growing up in a Japan that is war-torn and militaristic. Entirely unsuited by nature to this environment, the narrator must weave an intricate and profoundly self-defeating facade around himself as he discovers his sexuality. This mask leads him into a pitiful affair with a young woman which only redoubles his fear of his peculiarity, into deceiving his parents, and into effectively becoming further estranged from himself the older he becomes. The novel also becomes fixated upon the link between sexuality and violence, and the narrator's tendency to dream in this vein is recounted with mixed feelings of horror and fascination.

they are a little tongue in cheek, as some view 'The Prince' as satire, I could have equally put in 'Mein Kampf' by Adolf Hitler.

I have all these books, I dont' know if Gackt has read 'confessions' (re: his own book titled 'confessions) I have heard that Mishima is more respected in the West as an author than in Japan these days, Mishima sadly, is better known for his spectacular public suicide than his writing.

Cook books.
Do those count? I would think cook books with the amount of food his shoves down his throat. Only thing I could think of besides bikini catalogues.

Let's be fair, near hot stoves & stuff, clothes is required. We do not need no no places going near boiling water.
Dessert, though, that's when the clothes come off :D

& I don't care what he says about not liking sweets, his birthday cake just shows it.

I believe in Malice Mizer days he also liked vampire novels (Anne Rice? LOL), and I know he'd read instruction manuals front-to-back.

I don't know, he just said whenever he buys a new item like a camera or something he always reads the instruction manual - he might have even said in one sitting, but I know he reads ALL of it. XDD

I don't think he has much time to read xD

No idea about books, but regarding manga, I wonder whether he still likes Banana Fish... And if I remember correctly he once recommended a manga called Piano no Mori, for which I had scanlations of the first volume (but lost them somewhere along the way -o-) and kind of liked it.

I've found a short plot summary (because the only thing I remember about it is the piano in the wood LOL):
A tranquil tale about two boys from very different upbringings. On one hand you have Kai, born as the son of a prostitute, who's been playing the abandoned piano in the forest near his home ever since he was young. And on the other you have Syuhei, practically breast-fed by the piano as the son of a family of prestigious pianists. Yet it is their common bond with the piano that eventually intertwines their paths in life.

Definitely sounds Gackt-ish I'd say.

Banana Fish was a very popular and influential manga in the 80's early 90's, it has to deal with two friends who have to contend with a powerful drug and the gangs who push it. The lead characters names are Ash and Eiji, so some have thought that certain songs of Gackt's were influenced by the manga. It is a forerunner of the modern 'boys love' genre with a love relationship between the two principal male characters - but eschews bubbles and flowers for a gritty dynamic style and exciting plot, which means male readers could enjoy it as well as female readers.

Bless you for putting this question up - the answers have been such fun to read! And you're so right - I wouldn't have done it myself, despite your excellent suggestion, because I am too dull

My thoughts about what stuff Gackt might read now went: bills, Korean vocab, fanmail!

As for poetry, I like to imagine that he reads FRENCH poetry as a sort of lingering scent of his Malice Mizer Romantic image.

Hee - you're right: a book of bills would be very boring!

Mm. There's one photoshoot where Gackt is lying on a sort of rug in a field somewhere and holding a book (I think) - he has longish hair and pale clothing in these pictures. Anyway, I reckon this book-holding, long-haired scenario makes him look very like a poet!

The Banana Fish info was interesting. I wondered if he's tried Ssaiyuki ;)

:D I saw a picture of him reading Death note manga - I could try to find it if you want to :)

also because of the RR2 concept littleflapper pointed to me that he might have read RUR from Capek

and as a guess - maybe he would enjoy something from Poe? ^^
