So yesterday, Col Shinimegami mentioned that she didn't recall this clip of Saikai Story from the Sixth Day Seventh Night tour, and I think it bears repeating.
You will see the end of the concert, before the encore, and in the interval, the audience was handed blue penlights (unbeknownst to Gackt) and they all sang 'Happy Birthday' to him.
Gackt could hear this backstage, but what he said moved him the most was the sight of the thousands of penlights, for a moment he thought he had died in happiness and the lights were thousands of blue butterflies escorting him to heaven, and he sings through sobs. Later he reported, he didn't even know he was weeping.

Date: 2008-09-13 04:16 pm (UTC)The love he feels for his fans is almost palpable, as is the unconditional love his fans have for him. Such a tight bond between artist and audience is something I have only rarely seen in our times in the western culture, and this makes such a moment all the more precious. It gives the music meaning far beyond that of entertainment and commercialism. This is about emotions and passion, and that is why he is so extraordinary. He sings for his fans, not only for himself.
It is incredible to see an artist moved to tears by his audience, just as he always moves us to tears with his songs, and the emotion and passion he displays during his performances.
I have only known him for a comparatively short time, but already he means more to me than almost any other musician I have ever listened to. The knowledge that I have been unaware of such beauty for so many years is almost painful, but thanks to you lovely people I can now experience all those wonderful moments of the past, and hopefully many more in the future.
That was honestly one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen.
