Mobile Suit Gundam the anime, which spawned a 30-year Japanese cultural phenomenon, stands apart from other 'mecha' or robot series by showing the machines piloted by humans, exposed to wear, tear and breakdowns (humans and machines) by war. Despite it's dated style (1979-1980), this still looks better than many Saturday morning cartoons, but what will get you hooked are the intricate politics and human stories.
