Summer Challenge Entry

Here's my entry for the current challenge. It's a paper cutting/kirie of Gackt. I used a picture from the Nemuri photobook as a reference.

I drew out a pattern digitally, transferred it to tracing paper, placed that on the black paper, and cut away. This is the result of a few lost attempts (this is easy to totally ruin in just one misguided stroke ;-;), but is one of the first paper cutting I've ever tried.
I wanted to thank you, Karadin, for the inspiration post on kirie. I hadn't ever thought to try something like that before, and I really, really enjoy it! ^^

I've also got a WIP picture, if anyone's interested, I'll put it under a cut



Hopefully, everything is correct? Please tell me if I need to re-size, change, or add anything. ^^

I'm trying to keep it from getting too bad, and so far so good :D
I wonder if it's because I've been doing pretty well about staying away from stuff I'm allergic to that it's being so cooperative- because I'm astounded that it's not absolutely killing me. And it always flairs up when I'm around/eat something I'm allergic to....

It depends on what you're doing, but I'm sure some of it could be quite easy- especially if you were just following a pattern.
I'm going to try to do a humming bird on a little, paint sample card, and I don't expect it to be very hard to cut out since I'll just be doing the silhouette :)
I would recommend doing something like that, maybe. It's very nice to do, other then some finger cramping that you may experience from holding the exacto-knife too tightly. DX
Oh, and you could trace the outline of an animal or flower and then cut that out; it wouldn't involve too much artistic skill,, or at least remove the drawing part, to do it that way.

Wow. That's beautiful work! The hair looks very, very difficult. The end result is great though! I think you made a fine choice of picture to choose - the composition, contrast, drama and suspended action are all very initeresting. Well done!

The hair was the reason I had to start over so often, the bangs kept either bending, or breaking off @_@;

Congrats! A very cool picture, I can imagine you going through a lot of Xacto blades, one thing that helped me was getting a blade with a padded handle, or you can get one of those gel surrounds for a pen and slip that over.

I've also been trying to not work for long periods of time because I've got a bad wrist, so holding the pen hasn't been particularly bad. But I think I'll see if I can find a latex-free grip, that sounds like a very helpful idea! That may help me from holding onto the shaft with a death-grip XD
