I think my trip to Japan cured me of moaning about UK prices! I paid about £70 for the Fuurin Kazan highlights DVD (2 DVDs) - wouldn't have been half that in the UK.
Having bought loads of discs over the years in Hong Kong (where a pukka licensed copy of Moonchild will set you back about £3), I found Japan curiously un-Asian in its disc-pricing. in fact, I walked about not buying anything for a few days, convinced that I was screwing up the exchange calculations! You obviously were better prepared, whereas I'd assumed that Japan was Hong Kong in yen.
