This plant, patrinia scabiosifolia, makes a fierce yellow carpet in its native habitats of Japan and Korea. Despite the strength of colour, its poetic quality relates to the parasol shapes appearing at the top of the individual stems; for this reason, it is sometimes called the maiden flower. Forgive the choice of un-maidenly Gackt image which is, I believe, a backstage picture from the Mizerable shooting and it makes me smile!
