Gackt performs the song written by Shoko Fujibayashi, the music composition is by Ryo, arrangement by Kotaro Nakagawa and Ryo, released by Avex, the company who produces this most recent series of Kamen Rider.

Kamen (or Masked) Rider has been a staple of Japanese action-adventure entertainment since 1971, in each series a young man discovers unique powers and must utilize them for the greater good.

The early forms of armor for The Kamen Rider were based on grasshoppers! Two planets have been named after actor Hiroshi Fujioka and Kamenrider after the series itself. A statue of the First Kamen Rider stands outside Bandai Corporation in Tokyo.

The first series ran from 1971-76. A second series began in 1979, to continue until 1981. the Kamen Rider Black series began in 1984, by a new production company and did not feature references to the early incarnations until it's last episode, where all previous Kamen Riders of the Showa Era joined to defeat the Crisis Empire.

Kamen Rider existed in the 90's by two films, a stage show, music CD's, Toei took over the franchise in 1999, and began a new series Kamen Rider Kuuga, and it is this franchise that extends to the present day.

Each season a new Rider appears, with a new scenario, not referencing the previous season. Commonalities for all Riders are their masks and armor, and motorcycles, (there was only one Mecha in Kamen Rider) as well as certain fighting moves, the signature Rider Kick, as well as a Rider Chop and Rider Punch.

The Riders of the Heisei Era are also remarkable in that they show insecurities and different motivations, sometimes acting on personal vendettas against enemies, and these days, can be reluctant to join the fight for justice.

Kamen Rider Decade - 2009 the newest incarnation, takes a page out of the Kamen Rider Black finale, by referencing previous Riders of the last decade. The Kamen Rider Decade will have to defend his dimension from being encroached upon by those of the other Riders, visiting each during the ten episodes of the season.

This piece is so self-indulgent that I think it needs to go under a cut:  it is a relief-offering for success so now I can come out of hiding!  Reading reports of the RnRII numbers and complex choreography increased my motivation to live up to Gackt's example of pushing himself physically - yes, I would probably have managed it anyway but it's been far more fun thinking that he and I might both be practising moves at the same time!   I'm grateful I didn't have to do my test pieces in the tight black shiny Ghost costume though - he scores for dedication.

We have some scenes of past Gackt appearances on the show (the embarrassing ones) Gackt is hilarious in interview, he's wearing an all-black ensemble with some surprisingly cool fringed boots and his silver glasses, he displays a funny strength contest with the brothers, and at the end of the program, a wonderful version of Kimini no Tame Dikiru Koto as well as Jesus backed by the 'house band' including the Kinki Kids.
