Just a Manip

For no particular reason, just a simple manipulation of a Gackt photo.  This was a very small photo, part of the 2002 tour booklet, if I remember correctly, thus the graininess.  Anyway, I just changed the color to remind me of a sanguine drawing and futzed with the contrast a bit.  Maybe someone could play with it a bit more and make the background lighter or add  some kind of "antiqued" edge.

an entry for the challenge Gackt as Uesugi Kenshin

Finally, I have a new PC and can finish something (so many started-only things ha ha) for this challenge.

Here is a piece to represent Gackt as Kenshin, but it is for you to choose whether the speaker (singer even) of the words is Gackt-san or Uesugi Kenshin.  For me, the phrase, "living close to the flame" reflects the brightness and daring of both of them.  Can you see that in this tribute to them?  I hope so!

The image comprises a friend's scan from the Diabolos tour book and my star screencap from the "Ama kakeru ryu no gotoku" DVD.  The words are mine.

Earlier this year, Gackt was asked for the two guiding principles which reflected the way he lived and approached his work.  His reply was "persistence" (not giving up - he used the proverb about dripping water wearing away a stone) and "willingness to try" (to take the risk of failure in the hope of a gain - he used the proverb about needing to go into the tiger's den if you want a tiger's skin).  I thought that these two qualities were shown also by Kenshin in his defence of Echigo and his determination to build a better life for his territory (people).

Anyone can win a Gackt Army Challenge!

Why? Because a winner is chosen by lottery from all entries!

Our challenges tend to be on a theme (Redemption Gackt, Kenshin Gackt) and this opens up to areas anyone can enter, icons, wallpapers, manips, fanart, and if you don't care to do graphics, you could write a fanfic, a song, a poem, an essay, the idea is to open the creative muse in everyone.

Since you can't compare apples to oranges - the quality of an icon to a poem, all entrants are written down on slips, put in a hat, and chosen by the General's progeny - who enjoy this so much they want MORE.

For those who don't care to make something, we do have contests throughout the year that anyone can enter and win, case in point, by commenting on Gackt's birthday card posted in the com, members had a chance to win the Red and Blue Filmography DVD's.

For those members who seek a juried challenge 'ie-judged' on their creative work, we have the Gackt Army Fanbook, these entries will be selected by a panel of Officers and The General.

Our latest challenge, Project Gacktway, has two winners, one from all entrants, and the other chosen by poll.

In the coming year we will have a contest sponsored by one of our Officers, the concept and donation of prizes is their own. So, if you've got a great idea, let us know, and enter as often as you can.

Gackt and Job have lunch

Gackt , Job and staff take a break from recording to enjoy some healthy food!

When served pears, Gackt complained that they were not Asian, and he wanted Japanese pears!

(Your Japanese culture note of the day)

The nashi pear, Pyrus pyrifolia, is sometimes called the Asian pear. It has been also called the Japanese pear, Korean pear or Taiwan Pear,  Nashi pears are widely grown for their sweet fruit, a popular food in East Asia.

Nashi pears generally are not baked in pies or made into jams because they have a high water content and a crisp, grainy texture, very different from the buttery European varieties. They are commonly served raw and peeled.

The flowers are white with five petals; they flower around April in the northern hemisphere. They are a popular symbol of spring in East Asia, and are a common sight in gardens or the countryside with the pink or slightly purplish flowers of peach or plum trees.
