New tattoo in honor of the grand General of the Army~

Yesterday, I got my seventh tattoo. I've been planning on getting this one for a while now, sort of in commemoration of my 10th year of following Gackt's music (solo and otherwise).

It is slightly altered. In the center circle I put in a simple crescent moon and the alchemical symbol for silver, both of which I included for various reasons. The Japanese script underneath are some of the lyrics from "Cube".




Obviously, it's still rather irritated on and around the thing (I have extremely sensitive skin). But it's doing well so far. Also, it may look a bit tilted, but I assure you that it's simply because of the placement of my other two tattoos there.

It was a three and a half hour session, but it was well worth it. The guy who worked on me was very meticulous and specialized in extremely-small linework. I am extremely pleased with the outcome ^_^

I never even thought about it for the fanbook, but I'd definitely like to submit it! I'm sure that he'd enjoy knowing that some of his fans are freaks haha~

That is quite an amazing testament to commitment! Definitely one for the fanbook.

Would it be interesting to explain the reason for selecting that particular lyric for the fanbook as well? But not if it's too personal, obviously.

I'm afraid I don't read any Japanese but "Cube" is about my alltime favourite Gackt song (though Black Stone occasionally gets that spot instead!) so I approve of the choice.

Well, "Cube" is definitely one of my favorites, both for the distinctly beautiful sound and the lyrics. These lyrics in particular are found near the beginning of the song...and actual quote in the lyrics that reads "karada o moyashite aru ga mama no sugata ni nare", which translates loosely as "burn this body so it can reveal its true form". The lyric itself resonates with my odd sense of spirituality (which is a story in itself) along with describing rather accurately my life experiences up until this point.

Also, it's a perfect example of his lyrical prowess. The first kanji is something that I actually had to look up (thanks Jim Breen's online kanji dictionary!). I could hear what he was saying, but in the booklet, it's not the one you'd expect for "karada". Said kanji denotes dead body, so it adds an entirely different level of meaning to the lyric.

Oddly enough, now that I've typed that kanji so many times while putting together the design, it's been automatically defaulted as the primary kanji for "karada" on my computer XD

Thanks for taking the trouble to explain this; I'm always conscious that I miss out on much Gackt depth by not having any understanding of Japanese so I appreciate it when other people can de-mystify some of the lyrics or interview comments.

I know that someone with Gackt's imagination and interest in communication (he seems to read widely too?) is going to write interesting lyrics so hearing the songs as "noises" is really frustrating! Thanks for translating.

Effing awesome!!! I've done the same with Kyo of Dir en Grey. I'm actually going to get more added onto mine in a few weeks.

I have, however, wanted that tattoo on the small of my back for a while now. I've just been afraid that because it's so detailed, years down the road it would be nothing but a blob with squigly lines that used to be wings, haha.

That's hawt.
