Crescent Company Needs A Motto!

Our members are divided into companies of 100 (just like a good army should) but our second company newly forming, has yet to have a motto, so!

Should the community choose a motto or would the members of the company prefer to come up with their own?

It's early days yet, but we can also pick the name of the 3rd company - for now they seem to follow album titles, woe betide the Mizerable Company.

Cause I could discuss it will everybody XD except I don't know what the motto would be.
Soooo, hmm, what are the other companies mottos?
But, in the mean time hopefully other members will comment on this and we can see their opinions. ^^

The motto for Diabolos company is 'the Devil's own'
which makes sense, but I couldn't think of one regarding the moon, and perhaps illumination.

Good question. I've gone back to a good dictionary: motto is defined as a reflection or sentiment considered appropriate to purpose or aspiration. I'm not really any the wiser ha ha

Mmm. You want a motto. Let's play with the word then. What does "Crescent" bring to mind?

- Horns (oops - not good)

- Bent (worse!)

- Lunatics (no, no - let's save that for the future Moon company! Don't see why the Moon album should escape)

- Growing (the word comes from the latin "crescere" to grow, no?)

Pray silence for nasty connotations of "growing"! OK - nothing nasty.

So, growing what?
Well, obviously growing bigger like the moon as more members join - but that's a truly dull matter of counting. Growing bigger means shining brighter, though. Does that lead to anything? "Always brighter" Or is that too competitive an idea? (Hee - I don't think so! But then I'm not a Devil)

On the bright note, here's a funny one (though I know the maths doesn't stack up so ignore it for serious purposes): "the Light Brigade"

Is there any way of combining one of the crescent associations with a Gackt song title maybe? I dunno - "The Light of Another World" or something like that?

Difficult. Anyway, I've tossed my toys onto the table to see if anyone else wants to play with them.

Yes, I was trying to think of mottos with light and illumination, even something like 'illuminate the darkness'

but you can also use, loyalty, devotion, honor,
steadfast, maybe 'light bringers' as opposed to 'night walkers'?

I certainly like the IDEA of this but the wording's a bit clunky - and not quite combative enough for my liking (I mean, we're an army, aren't we?). I'd prefer something like, "Defying the darkness" or "In defiance of shadows" or something implying that we'll fight for our curved little sliver of light!

I couldn't sleep last night and thought I'd feed my brain with the Crescent company motto conundrum (again!). I considered why the moon is a crescent (i.e. shadow over the rest of the moon's spherical shape) and ended up spooking myself with the phrase "Eaten by shadows". We don't want this as a motto!

But the shadow thing is another angle, I suppose.

I'll continue thinking, for what it's worth.

Aha! From "straight-forward" to "simple"? I'm with latte vanilla on the idea of something slightly oblique: a crescent has a distinct twist to it. Trouble is my head is too full of shadows now to see anything clearly!

My latest thinking is about the crecent moon pushing back the shadow (I know this is nonsense in terms of planetary movement!). The crescent starts as a curved whisker of white on the black fur of the night - and that's where the light begins. So, "Where the light begins"?

Or am I being too straight-forward again? This is meant seriously - it's about time someone else spoke up!

The shadow notion is a good one! The crescent always stays visible because the light is defended against the shadow, right? So, how about, "Defending the light"?

Well, how about... "Red shadows", based on the cover of the Crescent album and from karadin's idea... Or "Ankoku no Hikari" (The Light of Darkness), based on celestialraine's idea and also from the cover of Crescent album... ^^;;
