Gackt bio on UK arthouse website

UK arthouse website Kamera has two new pieces promoting Bunraku and Gackt on its front page at the moment.  The timing seems deliberately chosen to coincide with the release of Bunraku on DVD in the UK this week and the Kamera website has, in any case, a strong interest in Asian cinema so the Gackt connexion is a natural one for them to exploit.

It's good that this bio is not just the usual lift from wikipedia but a decent snapshot of Gackt's acting roots and experience, together with a rationale as to why he was a natural choice for the part.

Great review. I think maybe the American audience is having trouble with Bunraku because so few people have any experience with live theater anymore, and Bunraku is all about the world of the stage.

Yes, you could be right. It hasn't made it into cinemas in the UK at all from what I can see, which is disappointing.

If you are used to Asian cinema, it's easy enough to know how to watch Bunraku but, I guess if you don't have that background and you don't watch live theatre either, then, yes, it's probably difficult to appreciate what you see on the screen.
