I usually ask them first which music they usually listen to and what they like, which movies, etc. ^^ Then I search trhough my memory for something they might like and show them these. For example someone who usually likes to watch moving/philosophical dramas/movies and likes to listen to melodical music (whether melodic metal or something.. uh.. 'poppier') I'd show something like Saikai Story or even Seki-ray. (I adore those songs +laughs+)
If the person was a Gamer, it'd be the easiest. Redemption, Diabolos, Crisis Core/Genesis FVs with Gackt songs... ^^
