Gackt as Uesugi Kenshin - Fuurin Kazan Documentary DVD

A Review:

This DVD allows you to see the taiga drama Fuurin Kazan in production, through the eyes of one of it's stars, Gackt, an introduction reveals why the producers wanted Gackt, a young musician for the role of one of Japan's most revered historic figures, Uesugi Kenshin, known as The Dragon of Echigo.

One of my favorite parts has to be the interview with Ogata Ken, Gackt's co-star, who reveals his off-screen connection and friendship with Gackt, and how this affected their on screen performances.

Of particular interest to me are Gackt's thoughts on why historic dramas are relevant, and how events of the past influence modern Japan. Portraying Uesugi - known for his sense of justice - has changed Gackt's view of himself (or perhaps it is better said, reaffirmed) what he wants to accomplish in his life.

In Praise of You

One of the truly most entertaining blogs I read is that of our favorite violinist, guitarist and Gackt's soul-mate, You-kun. To the right you can see two links, one to You's blog, and for those of us who are still brushing up on our Japanese, RobotClones, the You blog translated into english!

You blogs in a casual, ironic and funny style, often his topics are food (as the Mommy of GacktJOB he cooks, and is now into breadmaking) he gives advice on such things as vitamin supplements, skin-care, types of fragrances, as well as his semi-pro hobby of photography (he's been part of a two-man photography exhibition)

He's blogged on recent jewelry creations, as well as his work with Chimera Crew leading dance competitions, and he collects pets, his cute chi Hana, as well as Hamu-chan, his hamster, and now a recent fascination with reptiles!

So, with all this goodness (and occasional asides to best-friend Gackun) we will forgive him a habit of complaining about his weight (fairly constantly)
