Display your Gackt posters without putting pins in them!

I recently purchased a giant bus-stop sized poster of the Japanese film GOHATTO from the Cannes Film Festival, and was both happy and dismayed at the size - it covers most of a wall - now I could get it framed, which would be hundreds of dollars just for the size, not to mention it would be very heavy - but a solution is at hand!

You will need-
clear sheets of vinyl (medium weight)
clear filament or white thread
a sewing machine
metal grommets (4 for smaller poster size 6 for large)
paper clips

(If you do not have a sewing machine, you can try this using vinyl glue, but tell me how that works out for you)

If you go to a fabric or a craft store that sells fabric (like JoAnnes) you can purchase sheets of clear vinyl in varying thicknesses, (I went for a medium weight to help keep the poster flat.) these come about four to five feet wide, and you can get them as long as you want.

Pick a standard poster size, allowing 1/2 inch wider and longer than the poster and then 1/2 inch extra around the sides and bottom for the seams, add two inches at the top to allow for grommets.

Trim vinyl to size using very sharp fabric scissors - if you can, ask the shop assistant to trim it for you, as they have the long tables and can cut it square.

Get out your sewing machine, load with white thread or clear filament.

Fold over a quarter of an inch at the sides and bottom of both pieces of vinyl (I used paper clips to hold the sides for sewing instead of needles, because needles will leave holes in vinyl) At the top fold over 1 inch for grommets.

Install the grommets, about 2 inches from the edges of the poster. For a large poster, say 2 1/4 feet wide, like a movie marquee, use 3 grommets.

Set the metal rings male and female on either side of the vinyl and pound them with a hammer until they meet. Remove the excess pieces of vinyl from inside the grommets. Make sure that the placement of the grommets on both pieces of vinyl match.

Match both pieces of vinyl together so that the seam edges face each other, sew in a straight line both sides and the bottom - this will leave the top open, you've made what amounts to a large pocket.

Now you can hang your posters on the wall without putting pins in them, this will also protect them from dust and some moisture, and you can take the posters in and out as you wish, or even put two of them in and flip it over as you want. This is not archival however, the posters will still fade if you hang them in bright sunlight.
